Group Testing: CogAT & NNAT-3

We offer the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT-3) in a group format between September and January. Students can complete one or both assessments during our scheduled testing dates.

Our testing dates are completed for the 2025-2026 School Year. Please check back here in August/September 2026 for our 2026-2027 testing dates.

  • Testing Format: These are traditional paper-and-pencil assessments. Second graders record answers directly in their test booklets, while students in third grade and above use a "bubble" (Scantron) sheet.
  • Student Support: Our proctors provide clear instructions on how to use the answer sheets and monitor students throughout the session to ensure they are comfortable and on track.
  • Eligibility Note: Please ensure your child has not taken the CogAT or NNAT within the last six months, as they will not be eligible for a retest during that window.
  • Preparation: Aside from a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast, no formal preparation is necessary or encouraged.

Important Update for FCPS Families

We are aware that Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has transitioned to the Naglieri General Abilities Test (NGAT) for their internal screenings. However, FCPS has confirmed they will continue to accept CogAT and NNAT-3 results from the Mason Cognitive Assessment Program. For specific policy questions, please consult the FCPS AAP website or your school’s testing coordinator.

Individual Testing: WISC-V

The WISC-V is also accepted for FCPS AAP applications and is available via individual appointment year-round.

To schedule a WISC-V assessment, please contact our office at 703-993-4200. If we are unavailable, please leave a message and a member of our team will return your call within two business days.
